Sustaining Production and Service Electrical Engineer

Purpose and scope: The position will primarily be involved with sustaining engineering supporting our production and service teams. The individual should be driven to perform in-lab troubleshooting of complex analog, digital, and power electronics systems, finding root-cause of failures down to the component level. Sound technical skills, communication skills (written and verbal), and have the ability to work independently, are paramount. In this role the candidate will work in cross discipline team. Proficiency with laboratory experience with DVMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc. are required. The person must also be capable of resolving obsolete component issues ranging from pin-for-pin drop-in replacements, to board design changes.  Some travel is required.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the transfer of new designs from R&D to production and service
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting of product assemblies and subassemblies down to the component level
  • Work with engineering team, manufacturing and service teams on failure analysis and documentation of product defects 
  • Train manufacturing and service team on new processes and methods as required.
  • Work with engineering team on new design improvements based on internal and customer feedback.
  • Track and coordinate the implementation of hardware design changes and tracking change notice (ECN) releases and BOM updates.
  • Work with manufacturing and service teams to optimize the build and deployment of chargers and provide feedback to engineering team for product/production improvements.  
  • Generate troubleshooting procedures and/or work instructions, providing direction/training to production operators / service technicians
  • Provide support for test processes on the production floor and New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Documentation of CAN communication protocols with customers for industrial battery charging applications.   
  • Composition of engineering reports detailing failure analysis.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education and Training:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 3 ‐ 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in power electronics, electronic and digital circuits, as well as production of electronic assemblies
  • Electronic hardware engineering experience in a product development or sustaining engineering environment

Technical Requirements:
  • Power electronics and power supply experience is preferred 
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting complex power electronics systems (battery charging applications is a plus)
  • Analog and Digital troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency with common laboratory engineering tools including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, digital multi-meters, and other support equipment
  • Experience in various wired communication protocols such as CAN and PLC is a plus
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Technical Documentation proficiency is required
  • High proficiency with multitasking
  • Familiar with issue tracking software (Jira) is a plus
